Project Overview

This Mason, Ohio family had been thinking about adding a pool to their backyard for years. They finally pulled the trigger after getting a few quotes and deciding they wanted a company that would handle everything themselves — no subcontractors, no handoffs, no excuses. That's exactly what brought them to Aquascapes.

After an initial site visit and consultation, we walked them through their options and settled on a custom rectangular vinyl liner pool. The shape fit their yard perfectly, leaving enough room on all sides for a concrete deck, lawn space for the kids, and easy access around the equipment pad. From the first conversation to the final walkthrough, this project was a true collaboration between our team and the homeowners.

Site Assessment & Design

Before any equipment touched the ground, we did a thorough site assessment. Mason properties can have variable soil conditions, and we wanted to understand what we were working with before finalizing the pool dimensions and excavation plan. The yard had a gentle slope toward the back corner, which we accounted for in our grading plan so drainage would work correctly around the finished deck.

The homeowners had a clear sense of what they wanted — a clean, classic look with a liner pattern that complemented their landscaping. We walked them through the liner catalog and they selected a subtle blue-grey pattern that gives the water a deep, rich color in sunlight. Simple, timeless, and exactly what they were after.

Excavation & Site Preparation

Excavation started on a Monday morning and was completed by end of week. We dug to the precise dimensions required for the pool shell, managing the slope carefully and hauling spoil off the property so the yard stayed as clean as possible throughout the process. Our crew graded the surrounding area as they went, setting the stage for a smooth transition to the pool wall installation phase.

One thing that sets Aquascapes apart is that our excavation team and our pool installation team are the same crew. There's no waiting for a separate contractor to finish their piece before we can start ours. As soon as the hole was ready, we moved directly into pool wall panel installation without delay.

Pool Installation

We installed the steel wall panels around the perimeter of the excavated area, securing them to the bottom track and bracing them into position. The pool floor was hand-troweled to a smooth, cove-shaped finish at the walls — a critical detail that affects how the liner sits and how long it lasts. Once the floor prep was complete, we set the liner, carefully pulling it into position and securing it into the track along the top of the wall panels.

With the liner in place, we began filling the pool and simultaneously smoothed out any wrinkles as the water weight pressed the liner into the floor contours. This is a step that requires patience and attention — rushing it can leave permanent wrinkles that are visible once the pool is full. We took our time and the liner settled perfectly.

Plumbing & Equipment Setup

While the pool was filling, we completed the plumbing runs and equipment pad installation. The homeowners opted for a variable-speed pump, which significantly reduces energy costs compared to older single-speed units, along with a cartridge filter and a basic automation system that lets them control the pump and lights from a smartphone app. We ran all plumbing underground, pressure-tested the lines before backfilling, and made sure every connection was clean and watertight before signing off.

The equipment pad was poured and finished to match the deck aesthetic the homeowners had planned, and all equipment was mounted and wired cleanly. No exposed conduit, no sloppy connections — just a professional installation that will be easy to service for years to come.

The Result

The pool was complete and swim-ready ahead of the original projected timeline. The family had their first swim weekend before the Fourth of July — exactly what they were hoping for when they first called us in the spring. The liner looks sharp, the water chemistry was balanced and stable from day one, and the equipment has been running quietly and efficiently all season.

This is the kind of project we love — a family that had a clear vision, trusted us to execute it, and ended up with exactly what they imagined. If you're thinking about adding a pool to your Mason or Southwest Ohio property, give us a call and let's talk about what's possible.
